Dala, VEMP, Rainoil: Usman Kushimo Sets Tall Target Ahead Of Fast Approaching National Tournaments

Young Nigerian tennis sensation, Usman Kushimo, is preparing to trouble top Nigerian tennis stars when the three national tournaments ending the year hold, Nigeria Tennis Live can report.

The 15-year-old junior tennis player who has been training inside the tennis section of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, ahead of the forthcoming tournaments and has said that he wants to get better than the last time he competed.

In a short chat with our correspondent, Kushimo who qualified for the main draw of the Rainoil national tournament in 2018 as a lucky loser but couldn’t compete because he took ill.

Usman Kushimo and trainer, Coach Kayode Savage, on the court, perfecting some of his skills ahead of the tournaments.

But the former African junior champion has revealed that he is ready for the forthcoming competitions as he has been training hard for the tournaments.

“I have been working hard on myself ahead of the forthcoming competitions because I have been looking forward to them.

“I couldn’t play Rainoil last year because I suddenly took ill on the day the main draw was supposed to start, but I am much better now and I am ready to compete,” Kushimo, who just finished his secondary education, informed Nigeria Tennis Live.

When reminded that all the senior players would be on ground for the competition, the lanky youngster replied: “Yeah, I know, but I have been working on myself and I know that I am a much better player than last year.

“I cannot categorically state which stage I would get to, but I am sure that I will play well and exceed the second round of the competition, no matter what happens.”

Nigerian tennis players will be buzzing with excitement as the Dala Hard Court tournament (in Kano) kicks off shortly after the Junior ITF Circuit in Abuja, and the Rainoil Championship follows immediately (in Lagos) before the VEMP Open wraps up another tennis year for the Nigerians.
